The Red Cross Society is an International Organization which aims at promoting mutual understanding, friendship co-operation and lasting peace among all the people. This is one of the largest voluntary organization in the world which works for the welfare and help of poor people and suffering humanity. THE INDIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY is a voluntary organization network of 700 plus branches throughout the country, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promotes health & care of the vulnerable people. The idea of Red Cross was conceived by Henry Dunant in 1859 when he saw more than forty thousand dying and wounded soldiers uncared in the battle field of Solferino. As a result of his sincere efforts, this organization came into existence in 1863 and an International body for taking care of the sick helpless and suffering humanity was established.
In our country, the Indian Red cross Society was established under the Red Cross Society Act XV of 1920 and thereafter, its branches spread out in every part of the Country.
The main objective of this society is to educate the population on how to prepare for and respond to disasters, organize emergency relief services for the victims of disasters, mitigation of their sufferings and promote the participation of children and youth in the work of the Red Cross.
